What are you here for? What are you here for? What are you here for?

What are you here for?

I have a big heart shaped post it note on the wall above my desk, which has these words written on it in purple texta.

I am here to create.

Ponder that for a minute. Not here to work. Not sweat over endless pages and projects. Not slog my way through whatever is waiting for me.

Many of you know I have recently started my sabbatical. Nine blissful months of doing, well,  whatever the hell I want really. I am going to write a post about that in a few weeks, so more on that later.

One of the things I really want to do on my break is write. There is the upcoming workbook for Getting Real About Having It All, there is the second book which I hope to get out by October (oh God there I said it) which will be on Leadership (but not as you know it), and there are articles, blog posts and an itching to write an opinion piece for Vogue Australia. So lot’s of writing. Oh and the little thing called the PhD starting in September, might require a little bit of writing (you think?).

Whilst it is such a gift to have the luxury of time for all of this writing, I was still starting to see all of these beautiful projects as like, you know, work. And I am meant to be on a break from all of ‘that’.

So it was time to do some reframing.

When I was in New York recently, sitting in my favourite Japanese restuarant, drinking Vodka and eating brown rice sushi with peanuts and avacodo (you would totally die), I wrote a list of things I wanted to do on my break. And then more importantly I wrote the list of how I wanted to feel. We don’t often stop to consider this. How did I want to feel? Well the first word that sprung to the list was CREATIVE. To create. To dream. To write.

So, instead of thinking of my beautiful writing projects as ‘work’, I think of them as moments to ‘create’. It may sound obvious and simple, and it is I guess, but the mindset shift needed to sit in that space, claim it, and remain there, is a journey.

So thus the gorgeous love heart to myself on my wall which I look at everytime I sit down. I am here to create. That’s it.

And here is the question for you fellow traveller –

What are you here for? What do you need to reframe, to be able to sit in the space where you can do what you came here to do?

Sit in the magic of that question. Breathe into the possibilities.

Until next time,

You’ve got this.

Megan xx
